On May 19, the steel industry environmental product declaration platform initiated by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association was officially launched. Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD for short, is an international measure of green and low-carbon products, and it is the most widely used in the world.

Jiang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China Iron and Steel Association: According to our statistics, China's annual output of crude steel is about 1 billion tons, of which about 5% of the products are directly exported, and more than 100 million tons of crude steel are passed through downstream. For the export of steel products, the release of the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) platform will provide a green certificate for these products, effectively promote international trade, and effectively eliminate green trade barriers.

According to the China Iron and Steel Association, the platform will disclose the carbon footprint of the entire industrial chain of steel products from ore raw materials to steel production to processing and recycling based on international unified accounting standards. These data allow downstream users to choose a more low-carbon carbon footprint. Attributed green steel products are conducive to improving the market competitiveness of low-carbon products, further promoting the improvement of the efficiency of the steel industry, and contributing to the realization of the national "dual carbon" goal.
